At Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), the Cosmetic Application and Research Center KOZAM, established in 2016, in addition to the cleaning products such as cream, lotion, soap, liquid soap, detergent previously produced under the MAKÜ Kozmetik brand, will also provide an alternative solution to the sleep problem related to stress for many people with the Aromatherapeutic Textile product.

MAKÜ scientists, who received two awards at the 7th International Cosmetic Congress organized by the Association of Cosmetic Manufacturers and Researchers (KÜAD), once again made MAKÜ and Burdur proud.
MAKÜ scientists will provide a solution to stress-related sleep problems with the textile products they produced by using the oil of lavender, which is intensively produced in Burdur, rich in terms of aromatic plant cultivation, and placing it into nanoparticles.
A Producing and Sustainable University
Stating that the patent is in the process of being obtained and that this product, like other products produced by KOZAM, is environmentally friendly, and that they received two awards at the 7th International Cosmetic Congress, MAKÜ Food Agriculture and Livestock Vocational School Department of Plant and Animal Production Dr. Lecturer Aslıhan Cesur Turgut said, “Since the day it was established at the Cosmetic Application and Research Center, our goal on this journey was to reduce the need for imports by exporting only raw materials or harvested plants abroad, and then importing value-added products back into our country, given that our region and country are very rich in terms of medicinal aromatic plants. Based on this, we developed various R&D and production activities. With the infrastructure project “Purple Gold Lavender from Tourism to Perfume” we established our production facility in our laboratory. We can provide various formulation and consultancy services, production services to companies and organizations. We have been producing the cleaning products needed by our university for years as MAKÜ KOZAM. In this sense, we think we have taken a good step towards being a producing and sustainable university. As MAKÜ KOZAM, we have registered the MAKÜ Kozmetik and MAKÜ Kimya brands. After entering our necessary information into the ministry's product promotion system, you will soon be able to find our products on e-commerce platforms or sales platforms. At the 7th International Cosmetic Congress held this year, we were awarded third place in the Innovation Zone in the innovative products category with the Aromatherapeutic Textile product we produced and first place in the oral presentation where we conveyed the details.”
The project will bring together both the textile industry and producers of aromatherapeutic oils
Emphasizing that the Aromatherapeutic Textile product, which will be a solution for people suffering from stress and anxiety-related sleep problems, especially in big cities today, will add value to both the national and regional economy, MAKÜ Faculty of Science and Letters Department of Chemistry Lecturer Prof. Dr. Fatih Mehmet Emen said; “We received an award within the scope of the research activities we carried out at the Cosmetic Application and Research Center. Today, people, especially in big cities, suffer from stress and anxiety-related sleep problems and resort to various means. Aromatherapy offers a solution in this regard. We set out with the goal of developing a product by combining aromatherapy with nanomaterials. Aromatherapeutic oils create an allergenic effect in many people when they come into contact with the skin. However, we know that essential oils like lavender have a sedative effect, a calming effect, and in this sense, people use lavender sachets or drop lavender oil on the sides of their beds to facilitate sleep. They try to find a solution in this way. However, essential oils like lavender create an allergenic effect in many people. That is, it should not come into contact with the skin, causing redness, rash on the skin. Based on this, we impregnated lavender oil into nanoparticles we produced and developed in our laboratory, and then placed the nanoparticles containing lavender oil into textile materials using a method we call electrospinning technique. The nano capsules inside provide a slow release feature to lavender, so we obtained a textile material that is effective for a long time by releasing slowly without emitting a very intense odor. We can use this material in textile materials such as pillows and mattress covers, or scarves, limited only by our imagination. Today, when we talk about textiles, functionalized products come to the forefront. There is a product market worth 20 billion dollars. Our country is also rich in textiles. With this project, we also plan to bring together both the textile industry and producers of aromatherapeutic oils. And in this way, we think our country will come to the forefront with products that will enter the literature as aromatherapeutic textiles or cosmetic textiles.”
